1984/B Classic 900 T16S silver

Brief history:
This particular car was the 1st T16S that was sold in the south coast, from the main dealers Arnett Saab in Bournemouth.
Owned by only one gentleman from new, this car was also serviced throughout it's life by only one technician. He was the workshop manager at Arnetts, and then ran his own garage in Swanage, nearby to where the owner lived.
The registration number is B900--- and has been registered with this number from new.
There is a massive history file with this car, including a fully stamped service book showing the last service being less than 1000 miles ago (albeit a few years ago!)
Unfortunately the owner passed away and his widow asked the mechanic to find a good home for the car.. he called us and we took it on as a possible restoration car. The car had been standing for a few years under cover prior to us purchasing it.
We have now sold the car to it's new owner who has asked us to undertake a mild restoration of the car.
Initial condition:
Very solid chassis, with just a couple of past weld repairs that look to have been done very well.
The bodyshell is generally very solid, with the exception of a couple wheel arch lips that have had a diy repair started but not completed.
The engine bay, main chassis structure and floorpan are all solid.
Bodyshell is straight with no signs of past accident damage, good bonnet, roof and tailgate. The doors have some minor corrosion on the lower inner edge.
Interior is in Colorado red leather, the leather material is in good condition but some of the stitching has rotted.
The headlining is truly awful and will need replacing.
Carpets are good, burgundy dashboard has cracked.
Shedule of work required:
The customer has asked for the engine/gearbox to be removed, the gearbox split from the engine and inspected internally. The engine to have new waterpump, thermostat, radiator hoses, fuel pipes, belts, gaskets and a thorough service with new oils, filters, plus, leads, coil, distributor cap, rotor arm etc etc..
The brakes will be replaced with fresh items - discs, pads, calipers, hoses and pipes.
Suspension to remain as original, with only components replaced where required due to age, wear or MoT.
The entire exterior will be stripped - lights, bumpers, bodykit, windows, windscreen and rear screen, locks, handles etc etc..
The engine bay will be grit blasted prior to painting, any body repairs required will be fully rust proffed and the entire car will be resprayed in the original colour. The bodykit will be refitted in the original anthracite colour scheme. wheels will be cleaned but not refurbished. Fresh tyres will be fitted due to age.
The leather interior will be replaced with a very nice condition velour set in the same colour. The cracked burgundy dashboard will be retained in preference over a good black one. The headlining will be retrimmed.
All the body fittings will be re fitted, fresh number plates fitted and finally a new MoT obtained.
PICTURES AND BUILD PROGRESS REPORTS WILL BE ADDED SOON.

The car was trailered from our storage compound to our workshop for initial assesment and test drive.
Mechanically the engine started 1st time after a new battery was fitted, and a brief drive showed no gearbox issues. some oil leaking from the cam cover gasket and a fuel leak from the rubber hose that joins the fuel rail.
Brakes were binding and the handbrake u/s.
Exhaust system looks to be in good condition.

Car now fully reassembled (apart from replacement headlining). MoT obtained and car run for a few days to iron out any potential issues, especially as the car had been unused for a few years.
One thing became apparant- the rear shock absorbers were very stiff, so new Borge gas shocks were fitted, along with a set of Firestone tyres, again because the existing ones had been unused for a long time.

Headlining fitted to the car, along with final adjustments etc. Car now ready for handover to customer.
Below are some photos taken in our showroom, unfortunately the weather was so bad that we didn't get the chance to take some dry sunny photos of the car outside before it was collected by its new owner.  (if the owner would like to email us some, we will add them to this project page).
