1989/F Saab classic 900 T16S BLACK

ONLY 31,000 MILES !!!!

Picture
Yes, that's right!  Only 31000 miles .
10 old MoTs to prove.
HPI clear.

showing 31,000 miles on the clock, the engine and gearbox in excellent condition, as to be expected.
Black with tan leather interior in exceptional condition.

Obtained from an elderly gentleman who has given up driving. This car has averaged only 1659 miles per year for the past 10+ years!

As to be expected from such a low mileage vehicle, the engine/gearbox and interior are exceptional. However the brakes will be changed due to lack of regular use, as will the clutch. The body will have repairs to some minor bumps and scrapes (again to be expected from an 86yo driver). The chassis is basically sound, but corrosion has no respect of mileage, and there are a few minor corrosion areas that will be professionally repaired. Noteably the ns rear wheel arch and osf lower wing edge. A full photographic record of the build will be taken, including pictures of the car before we start.

To gain an idea of the quality of work we will do to this car, take a look at the restorations section on this website.

Car will be fully serviced and sold with 12 months MoT.

When completed this truly will be an exceptional example of this iconic classic Saab.

19/01/2010  The purchaser of this car has asked us to carry out the following work before collection:
  • CHASSIS. Any areas of corrosion will be cut out and fresh metal welded in, seam sealed and rust proofed
  • BODY. The nsr wheel arch will be repaired using a genuine saab repair panel, fully rustproofed and painted to match the existing paintwork. The drivers door outer skin will be repaired and painted, the inner door bottom edges will also be repaired. Replacement aero door panel will be fitted. The tailgate has a very small rust bubble starting to show - that will be attended to as well.
  • INTERIOR. Retrimmed headlining will be fitted, along with sunroof section and rear quarter panels. Crack free dashboard will be fitted, retaining the walnut wood instrument panel. Original period stereo to be retained.
  • MECHANICALS. Full service to the engine with fluid changes, filters, drive belts etc. Pressure testing of the cooling system and compresion test of the engine. New brake pipes, hoses, pads etc, full change of brake fluid. Replacement clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder. Full MoT obtained.

W/C 25/01/2010 The car was initially taken for an MoT check to see if we had missed anything - the car failed as expected, on corrosion and brake hoses. We had expected these!  The car was then returned to our workshop to have the bodykit removed along with both bumpers and all interior fittings including carpets and under carpet sound deadening. all 4 'door' cards were removed as was all boot trim, falso floor, side carpets etc.
Once in a bare state the car was transported to our welders who set to work. All existing corroded areas were cut out and replaced with fresh metal. As is to be expected with any corrosion, it was a little worse than it initially looked - the n/s rear wheel arch corrosion had spred to the inner arch and boot corner, and the os front wing corrosion had spred upwards under the bodykit and under the wheel arch trim.
We decided to make sure all corrosion was killed and insted of attempting to patch the front wing a complete replacement wing was fitted.
A few smaller areas of corrosion were found on the chassis and these were also cut out and replaced with fresh metal, seam sealed and treated to Dinitrol rust prevention treatment. The car was at the welders for a total of nearly 3 weeks, being turned from its original state into a very solid shell.
w/c 15/02/2010  The car was then trailered to our bodyshop, TopCoat in Southampton, where we decided that instead of just repainting the ns rear wing, os front wing and door as agreed with the customer, we instructed them to repaint the entire sides of the car, with only the bonnet, roof and tailgate not repainted. After inspection of the drivers door it was decided not to patch repair it but to fit a replacement.
The car is expected to be back from the bodyshop 1st week of March.
w/c  01/03/2010 The car has returned from the bodyshop. Tthe following jobs are next to be done:
Refit the interior
Refit the exterior trim, bumpers, bodykit etc
Fit replacement brake and clutch components.
service the car
MoT.
Expected completion date 10/03/2010, followed by a few days road testing / useage.
