1992/J Classic 900i convertible black
Brief history:
This car came to us after being laid up for a few months following gearbox problems.
A black 900i convertible with a very solid shell but mechanically challenged!
The gearbox would not hold reverse gear at all, and also had loud bearings. The engine leaked oil like a sieve (maybe why the chassis is so rot free?!)
The hood was torn and the paintwork very flat. The steel wheels had only 3 wheel trims!
Initially purchased by us as a spares car, once we examined the body/chassis closely we were amazed at it's condition. One of the most solid cahssis weve seen on a convertible for a very long time.

Initial condition:
Once the engine/gearbox was removed we could asess the engine bay and front structure. all very good! The windscreen was removed due to some delaminating at the edges, and the windscreen frame was also found to be very nice, with just very small area of corrosion was found on the o/s lower corner but that was just minor surface damage.
Mechanically as stated above, the engine/gearbox assembly was u/s so removed for spares. The suspension looked good and even the brakes were reasonable, however we always suggest replacing the brake components due to age if not wear.
The hood was worn and torn but the frame was very good and the hydraulic/electric operating components were in very good condition. The cloth interior was in good condition apart from some minor staining resulting from the torn roof material. The carpets were very good.

The engine bay has been grit blasted and the whole bodyshell prepaired for painting. A couple of small corrosion areas were revealed by the grit blasting and these have been cut away and fresh metal welded in and rust proofed prior to painting. Also a couple of other areas of very minor corrosion were found (door bottoms and windscreen surround), again fresh metal was welded in and rustproofed.
The gearbox has been prepaired and the engine dismantled prior to its rebuild.
