I have a GENUINE limited edition MonteCarlo yellow classic 900 convertible, complete with the limited edition numbered plaque and correctly matching chassis numbers (this is not one of the fakes!)
Currently undergoing a comprehensive restoration, with the aim of producing the best classic 900 convertible available.
This car will feature:
Replacement rust-free bonnet, bootlid and doors.
Removal of windscreen and rust preventitive treatment applied to windscreen surround.
Any corrosion areas found will be professionally cut out- replaced and finished to the highest standards.
Complete professional respray in original MonteCarlo yellow, to include engine bay, door insides, door shuts, internal boot etc etc..
All box sections, sills, bonnet inner edges, boot floor sides, boot lid, inner arches, inner rear arches etc will be waxoyled.
Underside, chassis rails, etc will have existing underseal removed and reapplied.
New hood, including rear screen section.
Roof rubber seals replaced as required.
Hydraulic roof system, including rams and motor, serviced and refilled with new fluid.
Replacement crack free dashboard.
Walnut fascia, centre console, ashtrays
Electric leather seats will be professionally treated and fed.
Engine/Gearbox will be removed and fully serviced, anything needing replacing will be replaced, including samco hoses. Waterpump, headgasket, timing chain etc will be replaced as a matter of course. Oil cooler, radiator, intercooler etc will also all be replaced.
Cam cover, inlet manifold and intercooler pipes will be refurbished.
The alloy wheels will be fully refurbished, and new tyres fitted.
Brake discs, pads, hoses and fluid will all be replaced with new.
Carpets, door trims with leather trim, consoles, steering wheel etc will be fully refurbished to as new condition.
Air conditioning will be serviced, upgraded to the newer gasses and recharged.
Cruise control will be fully functioning as will central locking.
Electric mirrors will be fully refurbished to as new.
Replacement window motors and regulators and switches.
Headlamps will be replaced with bright silver items.
All lenses replaced with as new items, and bulbs replaced.
Aero bodykit and bumpers will be as new.
A full photographic record of the restoration will be included with the car, as will the existing FULL SERVICE HISTORY.
Naturally the car will be supplied with 12 months MoT and 12 months Tax.

Removed the interior: the seats, door cards, center consoles, carpets, under carpet sound deadning, knee roll, dashboard.. Removed the windows, including the windscreen, the door and side glass, regulators and motors. Removed the door locks, handles, central locking units. Boot floor, spare wheel. boot side carpets, rear slam panel. lock, central locking motor, handle.
The exterior trim has all been removed, the bumpers, the full aero bodykit including all fixing rails, lights, indicators, badges.
The bonnet, both doors and bootlid also removed, the bonnet and drivers door discarded due to corrosion. Next out was the complete engine and gearbox assembly, the intercooler, oil cooler, radiator, exhaust, the front slam panel, battery tray, ABS braking components etc...
Basically left with just a rolling shell.

Car transported to the bodyshop for prep work.
The engine bay was completely grit blasted. A replacement bonnet and drivers door obtained (exsiting one had slight corrosion in the seam).
Car now in the capable hands of Top Coat bodyshop in Southampton, where Mick and Mick will work their magic to turn the car into the stunner she will be. expect to get the car back in about 3 weeks.
Whilst all that is happening the engine and gearbox work began. Cam cover and inlet manifold removed for refurbishing, intercooler pipes, oil and water pipes and sundry items removed and sent off for powder coating (turbo heat shield, battery tray, oil cooler housing, turbo/gearbox support bracket etc..)

Wheels sent for refurbishing, new tyres ordered.
Whilst the car is a rolling shell, I have removed a rear axle, front wishbones, anti roll bars, tie rods, and sundry other suspension items from a donor car, for grit blasting and powder coating.
New supension springs and shocks ordered, new brake calipers, discs, pads, pipes and hoses ordered, new fuel pump, brand new headlights, wiper motor and window regulators also obtained.
Leather drivers seat sent to the trimmers to have the drivers bolster leather replaced (had worn as they usually do by the base).
Refurbished cam cover and inlet manifold received, also the powder coated items.
Wheels sent for refurbishing, new tyres ordered.

Inlet manifold, starter motor, alternator, water pump, thermostat housing, water pump hose housing, oil filter housing, air conditioning components and brackets, power steering pump etc etc all removed from the engine.
replacement new or refurbished parts will replace all thse items.
The gearbox and head will be seperated from the block, to be sent to the relevent specialists before reassembly with a freshly painted block, gearbox and refurbished camcover installed.

The engine work is not just to make it look pretty though - amongst the work carried out on the engine:
Gearbox removed from engine, sump and strainer cleaned. Bores and pistons inspected. Head removed and skimmed. Timing chain and guides replaced. Valves reground and stem oil seals changed, camshafts removed, cleaned and inspected. Oil pump removed, cleaned and inspected, oil pressure valve removed and cleaned, new water pump fitted, new core plugs and water heater boss fitted, all gaskets changed including headgasket. Camcover and inlet manifold changed... New clutch plate and bearing fitted, other clutch components found to be as new.

On checking the history file, a recon gearbox was fitted only a few thousand miles ago. covers off to inspect and it's still like new!

The remaining engine mountings/pipes etc, and most of the suspension components have now arrived:
The brand new brake components have arrived. Genuine Lucas Girling calipers, and Brembo discs, plus new pads and hoses:

The engine bay has been refitted, with new battery tray, washer bottle/clamp etc.. The inner wings have been refitted with cruise control, ignition amplifier and APC components. The wiring loom fitted.
At the other end of the car, the fuel pump, fuel sender unit & wiring were refitted, along with the boot internal trim, floor, spare wheel, tool kit, ariel and boot lock. Rear slam panel, lights, lights wiring loom also fitted.
and at last the engine has found its home back in the engine bay!
Under the car a full complete new genuine Saab exhaust sytem, incl. cat, was fitted. Also exhaust heat shields and new fuel filter.
With the new exhaust, fuel filter, suspension and brakes the underside of the car looks as good as the top!

The intercooler pipework was fitted, these were refurbished the same as the cam cover and inlet manifold:

Pictures below show the hood, the bodykit and the refurbished 16" Aero wheels. To keep this car will as standard specification the car will be supplied with silver 15" 3 spoke Aero wheels (shown in the last picture). The 16" Aero wheels will be available for an extra consideration on the price of the car. In my opinion they really finish the car off to the max, with their bodykit coloured centre spokes and bright silver rims.
The body kit takes ages to fit correctly, making sure all the panels are tight against the bodywork. The pictures show most of the bodykit on the car, still to fit the remaining wheel arch trims and bumpers.

As per original specification, this car will be supplied with the 15" silver 3 spoke aero wheels (on the right). The 16" Aero wheels (on the left) are available for an extra consideration on the price.
